Saw
Fr Tom on Hannity ...He handled himself most excellently,
including what could've been a tricky question from Colmes
re: whether a Catholic or Christian is required to "preach"
the tenets of their faith as TV show hosts, etc. He answered
this well.
I find in the interview even more evidence of the superficiality
of Hannity's faith when he starts tossing out the sex
abuse scandal to defend himself (plus, what good Catholic
would want to unnecessarily tar the Church with that outside
of having any context to do so)---that was quite sophomoric.
And of course the old "you're chasing people away"
is typical of a cultural Catholic. And then Hannity's
"you know something Father, I really don't care what
you think" showed little respect. (it was already
obvious he didn't agree with Fr. Tom!) Now, let's see
what Bishops speak up regarding Fr. Tom's stating he would
refuse Sean Holy Communion...

Ms.
Welborn, thank you for making me aware of all this. Up
until last week, I had sometimes listened to Mr. Hannity
on WABC New York (770AM) while driving, and liked some
(not all) of the moral positions he took. But after watching
him try to beat up a priest verbally on TV, I will be
listening to him no more. Nor do I think he won the debate
in the audience's eyes. I think his over-the-top technique,
e.g., "Answer the question, Yes or No!" lost
him points (that is, most of his 'fans' probably developed
more sympathy for the priest than for him). I thought
the priest showed some courage and cool in dealing with
him. I do not think calling someone a "hypocrite"
is wrong when that person is publicly mocking the Church
he professes to belong to, and the priest who is trying
to dialogue with him. Mr. Hannity invites hyperbole as
part of his style, and Father's comments fit within these
bounds, didn't they? But we can pray for him and for all
those very public Catholics, that the Holy Spirit guide
them in the right way. They have a tough job. Amen!

Tom,
I do not know how much truth there is to Hannidate offering
"gay dating." Only stories were from the Huffington
Post & a piece in the LA Times (which actually looked
like it could be a sarcastic commentary)...the blogs I've
seen and emails I've gotten can be traced to one of the
two above sources. However, "male" seeking "male"
and "female" seeking "female" does
not return any results. (Not even "log cabin"
Republicans!) Please don't toss "revelations"
such as these around to freely if you're not certain of
their veracity.
Keep fighting the Good Fight!
Peace.

Tom:
Just a short note of praise. I saw the clip of you appearance
on Hannity (last night). Great job. Hannity was abusive,
but you took it and called him on his public dissent.
It was truly funny to see him trot out all the liberal
arguments to defend himself.
God bless you.
AND
Fr. Tom:
Know that there are lots of priests very supportive of
your words. I've been
exchanging emails all day with 5 priests in my diocese
singing your praises,
and laughing at the hypocrisy of Hannity. God bless him
and convert him.
Please do put me on the email list.
God bless.

Congratulations! I just saw your interview on Fox News.
I think you clinched it well with the last sentence when
Hannity asked "would deny me communion if I came
to you Church?" Your answer, "I would."
Contrary to Hannity's statement that you’re the
cause of many Catholics leaving the Church, your reply
probably brought many of these
Catholics back to the Church. Good Work!!! My prayers
are 100% behind you.
God Bless

I don't care what Sean Hannity says. You're alright in
my book!

Tom,
Kudos for taking it to Hannity! Too bad he is more interested
in
entertainment than clarity of thought.

My
friends,
This is not a request. It is a strong encouragement and
if you have any respect for me, then please take it as
a command. If you listen to Sean Hannity on the radio
or watch his show, please stop immediately!!!!!!! He disrespected
Fr. Tom Eutenuer of Human Life International recently
and obviously has little or no respect for his Catholic
faith. Well, let me correct that. He respects "his
catholic faith," but has no respect for "the
Catholic faith." He fosters birth control and once
called conception after rape, "the demon seed"
and thinks that abortion in the case of rape is ok. Most
seriously though is the total disregard he had for Fr
Tom, a good and humble priest. PRAY FOR HIS SOUL BUT DO
NOT LISTEN TO HIM OR WATCH HIM. I sent this to over 1000
people. Feel free to pass it on.
God bless you and all you do.

Fr.
Tom:
I fully expect this e-mail to be buried amidst many, many
others (of commendation !!) - so I'll just add my words
of affirmation, to which - if you were even to read this
- needs no reply ! I fully believe that you're being an
accurate and tremendously-effective channel of the Holy
Spirit in this lamentable situation - your courage (which
Fr. Morris himself curiously mentioned, although I can't
say I detect his exercise of that quality in his priestly
work!) is right out of the book of the Acts of the Apostles
!! I pray for those being insidiously drawn into a modus
operandi of dangerously compromising with the world. I
also pray for an end to the circumstances that give rise
to so much splintering (even among we orthodox Catholics)!
Happy, Holy Lent,
Fr.

Hola
Padre,
Thank you for your teaching on dissent. While I was viewing
the discussion (online) rather objectively, I thought
your teaching on the issue of dissent might have been
made in a manner more clear. However, I was dismally disappointed
in Mr. Hannity's withering response. He chose the Alan
Colmes method of responding to religious persons by using
the extremely intelligent phrase "Shame on you! Judge
not lest ye be judged!" He sounded like one of the
bizarre religious sects which they regularly promote to
denounce. The fact that he set up a member of the clergy
of the Church to which he belongs, (i.e. the Church,)
is simply telling.
That's
just the objective view we need to hear on a news show.
He treated Nancy Pelosi's daugher with remarkable grace.
I did not think your teaching was well presented, to be
100% honest. But I appreciate and am glad that you sought
to present the teachings on dissent. Mr. Hannity's resort
to emotionalism was a disappointing tirade on his part.
And his resort to the Church scandals of the recent years
was as well a complete detraction from the point you were
making. No Priest can make a point on national television
which is unpopular. The host will always toss off the
scandals as an objective reality endemic to the entire
Priesthood. It was abysmally disappointing to realize
that Mr. Hannity would toss aside his public professionalism
for a moment's glee. Unless he considers the church his
family; in that case he can only respond emotionally,
and we have a lot of work to do.
Paz,
Fr.

Tom:
Bravo, bravo! You need to keep coming back at Hannity
so that he can have you on again, which I believe he will.
Only this time, agree to come if he gives you time to
speak. Tell him you thought the discussion would be balanced,
and that you didn't think you would have to face "two
Colmes" on this issue.

Concerning
the intervention of Fr. Morris (Note: the majority of
emails from priests about Fr. Morris cannot be re-printed
due to the stinging nature of their criticisms.)
Why
Jonathan, it profits a man nothing to lose his soul for
the whole world... but for Fox News?
