HLI Asks CPAC Attendees Why Are U.S. Taxpayers Spending Billions to Promote Abortion and Homosexuality Worldwide?

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

You and I both know that life and the family have been under attack in the United States for many years - often by those who take an oath to defend our liberty. Sadly, President Obama seems bent on an all out assault on our religious freedom in addition to his continued opposition to the pro-life and pro-family movement. And we, as U.S. taxpayers, are being forced to fund this radical agenda.

By now you are probably aware of President Obama's decision to attack the religious liberty of those who have a conscientious objection to contraception, sterilization and abortion-causing drugs through the HHS mandate on employer provided medical insurance. HLI is certainly among those who will be fighting against this assault, but I want to briefly turn your attention towards another issue that also impacts all Americans.

Billions of U.S. tax dollars have been spent on population control activities around the world including the promotion of abortion. The President's pro-abortion agenda goes beyond simply funding abortion clinics. The people of Kenya lost their legal protections against abortion in 2010 thanks to millions of U.S. tax dollars being spent there to a pass a new pro-abortion constitution.

The Obama administration has also made it a priority to spend our money advocating for homosexual "rights" overseas. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton even went so far as to say religious objections to promoting homosexuality are "not unlike the justification offered for violent practices towards women like honor killings, widow burning, or female genital mutilation" in a speech to the United Nations.

One of the ways HLI is raising awareness and hoping to gain support against our government's radical agenda is through our co-sponsorship of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C. next week. HLI will host a special event during the three day conference focused exclusively on the use of U.S. tax dollars to fund the destruction of life and the family overseas.

Our panel discussion, "Why are U.S. taxpayers spending billions to promote abortion and homosexuality worldwide?" will feature research from our own Dr. Brian Clowes, director of education and research for HLI, as well as insight from Austin Ruse, president of Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute (C-FAM) and Marie Smith, director of the Parliamentary Network for Critical Issues (PNCI). All CPAC attendees are invited, and we hope to gain new allies in our fight to defend life and the family through this informative and thought provoking discussion.

There's no telling how many unborn lives have been lost overseas with the help of our tax dollars, but we know that it must end. I hope that you will support our efforts at CPAC, and pray that we may reach many hearts and minds next weekend to join HLI in the defense of life, faith and family.
