Additional
Info: HLI Nigeria, located in the country's
capital of Lagos, was founded as an inter-faith NGO by the Catholic
Laity Council of Nigeria in 1990 and has grown to 60 chapters
nationwide.
HLI Nigeria/HLPL maintains as its basic philosophy and principles
the following:
+
The League is founded on the basic philosophy that ALL life is
sacred from conception to the time of natural death.
+ The sanctity of life is a supreme belief of the League and members
hold that man is a steward of his own God-given life.
+ The right to life is therefore a fundamental and inalienable
right.
+ The League holds that the family, as the fundamental or basic
unit of society, has the primary function and duty of providing
family life education for its children. The role of all other
collaborators in this regard is a subsidiary one.
+ Each family unit must decide for itself how many children it
wants in accordance with its spiritual, economic and health circumstances.
The family can and must be helped to understand and practice responsible
parenthood.
The
aims and objectives of HLI Nigeria/HLPL are the following:
+ To provide a forum to people of common interest towards achieving
their common goals in all areas of human and family life.
+ To study and monitor government policies at federal and state
levels as they affect the rights and welfare of the family.
+ To organize seminars and workshops in order to educate members
and the general public on family and human rights matters.
+ To lobby members of the National Assembly and other legislative
bodies at federal and state levels including local governments
in the interest of the family, young people and the unborn child.
+ To train and mobilize activists who would campaign and work
for the protection of human life in all its ramifications.
+ To publish pro-life leaflets, magazines, journals, books, audio-visual
materials and to disseminate them to the general public.
+ To collaborate actively with international pro-life organizations.
* To promote, organize and sponsor research studies on pro-life
and other related issues and to make results of such studies available
to the public and governments.
+ To promote fertility awareness among young people and to encourage
families to assume their proper role and responsibilities in the
areas of sex education for their children.
+ To organize course in Natural Family Planning in close collaboration
with the Pro-Life Association of Nigeria (P.L.A.N.) and other
organizations with similar interests.
+ To organize public rallies in favor of family rights and welfare.
+ To raise funds towards achieving the objectives of the League
and its Branches.
