The First Joyful Mystery: The Annunciation

Reading

“In the sixth month, the Angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David and the virgin's name was Mary. And coming to her, he said: ‘Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you…Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.’ Mary said: ‘Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." (Luke 1:26-32,38)

Prayer

Lord Jesus, we know by faith and reason that from the moment of conception there is a human being with innate dignity in the womb of the mother. We pray that this sublime and perfect Truth might be acknowledged and embraced by all people, especially those who promote abortion and the works of the culture of death. May those who commit crimes against the sanctity of human life in our world be brought to repentance for their sins and so enter the kingdom of God.
