The First Luminous Mystery:
The Baptism of Jesus
Reading
“Then Jesus
came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. John
tried to prevent him, saying, ‘I need to be baptized by you, and
yet you are coming to me?’ Jesus said to him in reply, ‘Allow
it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.’
After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the
heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a
dove coming upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, saying, ‘This
is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.’” (Matthew
3: 13-17)
Prayer
Lord Jesus, when
you heard the Father call you His “Beloved Son” at your
Baptism in the Jordan, you though of every person throughout all of
history who is made in the image and likeness of God. Grant the conversion
of all who have marred that image of God imprinted on their souls and
make them see the truth of the Father’s eternal love for them.
Bring them out of the culture of death and make their conversions be
a light to draw many others away from the kingdom of darkness.
