Additional Info: Goals and Objectives:
1. To promote, protect and defend
human life from fertilization or conception until natural death
and in particular the unborn and new born babies.
2. To advocate the ideals of human
dignity and respect.
3. To campaign for true human development.
4. To ensure that the killing of
the unborn and newborn babies or fetuses through abortion is prevented.
5. To discourage the use of contraceptives
and abortifacients, and condoms as methods of birth regulation.
6. The promote and protect the sanctity
and dignity of the family and marriage.
7. To defend and teach natural family
planning.
8. To provide assistance to survivors
of abortion.
9. To fight for the abolition of
the death penalty and any other cruel, inhuman or degrading form
of punishment.
10. To fight against forces that
dehumanize mankind on the pretence of the protection of the environment
and development.
11. To cooperate with the HUMAN LIFE
INTERNATIONAL and other such bodies in all those aspects that
directly deal with pro-life Activities.
Current
situation:
HLI
is present in all the provinces and dioceses of Tanzania. There
are at present about 2000 active members, of these 500 have registered
themselves in the branches within and outside of Dar es Salaam.
The branches are: Mbagala, Ukonga, Kilimahewa, Mwarusembe, Rombo,
Ndanda, Litumba, Litembo, Bugando, Mwemage, Rubya, Kilosa, Kigurunyembe,
Njombe, Dodoma, Itigi, Magomeni, Temeke Anglican, Ukonga Anglican,
Kinondoni Moslem, Mbagala Lutheran and Chang'ombe. Besides these
branches, there are many pro-life members operating at individual
level.
HLI
is an NGO, registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs under
the Societies Ordinance Act of 1954.
Board
Members: His Emminence Polycarp Cardinal Pengo, Archbishop of
Dar es Salaam, Rev. Fr. Beda OSB, parish priest at Kilimahewa
Parish, Sr. Dr. Birgitta Schnell OSB, incharge of Ndanda Hospital,
Justice Raymond Mwaikasu, High Court of Tanzania.
HLI
gets much support and encouragement from the Tanzania Episcopal
Conference, the Moslem Supreme Council, BAKWATA, and the Government.
Mr. Emil Hagamu is the current Chairman, and chief coordinator
of the Activities of HLI on daily basis and Mrs. Regina Nkunga
is the Secretary and chief NFP instructor.
Ms. Grace P. Shayo is our office secretary. Fr. Julian Kangalawe,
Executive Secretary for the Department of Liturgy at the Tanzania
Episcopal Conference and Sr. Dr. Birgitta are national advisers
of Tanzania.
