Newly-proclaimed Saint John Paul II was an inspiration for pro-lifers worldwide, for this one in particular. Pope Francis called John Paul the “Pope of the family,” and he was that in a very broad sense, which included a strong defense of marriage and the right to life of everyone from conception to natural death. This is exemplified by the numerous John Paul II Institutes for Studies on Marriage and the Family around the world.
At the Rome canonization ceremony I kept bumping into international pro-lifers and people with pro-marriage messages on their clothes. Clearly the Gospel of Life, the phrase coined by Saint John Paul II, was a major motivating factor in the immense crowd of over 800,000 faithful who attended the Mass.
Human Life International began its work during the pontificate of Saint John Paul II and with his strong encouragement for our founder, Fr. Paul Marx. The youthful atmosphere of joy and merciful love at the canonization ceremony made us feel the presence of this extraordinary Polish pope whose papal ministry literally carried him around the world. Fearlessly proclaiming the Gospel of Life in every corner of the globe is a precious legacy to HLI of Saint John Paul II.
