Saint Michael, Pray for Us

We received a wonderful note yesterday from our good friend, George Wirnkar, HLI’s director of Francophone Africa. He writes from Cameroon:

Something quite providential happened on Sunday: My younger sister and I attended Mass in the chapel of a high school with 500 students. My sister had many years ago spent time with the order discerning religious life. Straight after Holy Mass, the students devotedly prayed the St Michael the Archangel Prayer. I was happy to find that this prayer had been introduced by a priest who had been one of our Seminarians for Life. He introduced this prayer two years ago when he came to the high school as chaplain. Today the tradition is so well ingrained that the young people can pray this devotion as easily as they would the Pater Noster. No matter how daunting our work, we must remember we are sowers. The Lord will make the seeds grow in His good time and in places we may never know or imagine. Bonne Fête de St. Michael l’ Archange!

Happy feast of St. Michael the Archangel! George sends his salutations in faith to you as well as to all of us here in Front Royal at HLI Headquarters. It is our patronal feast day, as almost 20 years ago HLI’s founder, Father Paul Marx OSB, dedicated our chapel to the great defender of the Church. George’s message is a wonderful reminder of how Our Lord works in His own way, in His own time, to do His will.

What a timely message that we all need to hear. The battle for life and family rages all over the world – in the county offices of Kentucky; in the Supreme Court; in hearings in the halls of Congress; in rural areas of Cameroon, Mozambique, Chile, and New Zealand; in the cities of Macau, London, Phoenix, Lagos, and Mexico City. Everywhere the billion-dollar-funded Culture of Death spreads, eroding the institutions that were supposed to uphold freedom and justice, attacking life and the family.

And everywhere humble followers of Christ are there loving, praying, serving and fighting. The Archangel who we read in Revelation cast Satan out of Heaven at the behest of Our Lord God is the patron of all who fight the evil of abortion and every attack on life and family. We have seen many victories recently at the state level, and many more victories at the personal level with many hearts and minds opened to the beauty of life and the true nature of the family. And still the Culture of Death grows, seeping into every crack and crevasse of our radically secularized culture, lulling some to sleep, seducing others into cooperating in evil.

To think this is simply a matter of policy and argument is naïve. This is a battle of principalities and powers. The enemy has the structures of power firmly in his grip. There are good people fighting the necessary battles in courts and halls of power. We have indeed seen some victories here, for which we are grateful both to the warriors and to the One who makes them possible. But the greater victory we seek will not be in the next legal win or public relations coup. The victory will be God’s or it won’t be a victory at all, for only He has the power to reverse the gains made by those who would tear everything down and trample the rights of others just so they could live the life they choose without consequences.

We know Who wins, and it is ours to be faithful. Thank God for the victories along the way, and for His gift of protectors like Saint Michael.

Saint Michael the Archangel, pray for us!

    Dear Father Boquet,
Thank you for your Letter requesting Prayers for our babies. I will send it to my friends and ask my Webmistress to put it on my Site. I was asking God recently why the World was in such a mess and my thoughts immediately turned to Mother Teresa’s Words – As long as we continue to abort our babies, the World will not have Peace. The thought came to me that we should all repent for the Abortions which occur in our Countries. Here in Ottawa we have had a few Masses of Repentance for our Country and are about due for another one. Perhaps if every Country did the same we would see some changes.

please pray for Damianus aditya christie and myself. I have been waiting for reconciliation and to forgive each other, peaces for me and him, I have been struggling with pain. You always know what was happened because You see everything a most hidden corner, in suffering and disappointments. I come with a broken heart, he keeps away from me like crazy, he doesn’t respond to anything, arrogant and acts selfishly. please pity me Father, please soften and touch Damianus aditya christie heart for me. I can’t touch his heart, i know that prayer is a powerful thing. Without Your graces, we cannot accomplish anything. only God can change people’s hearts. please remove pride from his heart. please help me face things that are beyond my capabilities. because God, You have power to help me. and if You don’t want this reconciliation to happen, please give me strength to overcome the bitterness. Teach me how to remain grateful, although this is the most difficult. teach me to love you more than anything. I really need a miracle, thank you
