HLI Responds to Attack on Pro-Family Groups

FRONT ROYAL, Virginia – March 17, 2017 – Following is a statement from Father Shenan J. Boquet, president of Human Life International, in response to attacks on pro-family organizations C-Fam and the Heritage Foundation for their inclusion in the U.S. delegation to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women meetings. Below the statement are links to articles containing the baseless attacks.

“The U. S. State Department chose wisely when representatives of C-Fam and the Heritage Foundation were selected to join the U.S. delegation to the CSW meetings at the United Nations,” said Father Shenan Boquet, president of Human Life International. “Both organizations have solid records of defending the rights of women and children, while upholding fundamental human rights such as the freedom of religion and freedom of speech. Yet these basic human freedoms are routinely attacked by those who now accuse every person who disagrees with them of bigotry and hatred.

“It matters not to such radical groups as the ironically-named ‘Human Rights Campaign’ that neither C-Fam nor the Heritage Foundation have ever once called for violence against HRC’s preferred victim groups or any other group. Nor can they find any examples of actual hateful speech, unless they look to the radical anti-Christian movements that would strip every basic human right from those who disagree with them.

“Finally, the charade must end of using the radical Southern Poverty Law Center’s judgments of ‘hate group’ as some objective measurement of who may and who may not be allowed to participate in the public square. The SPLC’s sole reason for existence now is to lump Christian advocacy groups in with actual hate groups, therefore tarring the reputations of those whose values—the values that built this nation—they find unacceptable. Even after the SPLC’s ‘hate group’ list was used by a violent man who intended mass murder against one of these supposed ‘hate groups’, the media still list treat SPLC as some kind of authority, rather than what they are: hypocrites who are pleased to see others targeted and marginalized if they have the wrong opinions.”
