Every year Human Life International (HLI) impacts hundreds in Latin America alone with its pro-life training courses. This schooling, aimed at priests, seminarians and laity, will graduate over five hundred alone this year from the Dioceses of SonSon Rionegro in Antioquia, Colombia and of Maturin, Monagas, Venezuela. At the present time, an additional seventeen seminarians in first year Theology and two priests have come together in theDiocese of SonSon Rionegro, as well.
At the same time, Bishop Pablo Salas of the Diocese of Armenia, Colombia, has graduated another one hundred eighteen priests, seminarians and deacons in Life and Family issues over the last three years. Smaller numbers are being trained in El Salvador, Peru, and Guatemala. The Apostolic Vicariate of Izabel, Guatemala is planning to host another course for one hundred in the near future. Key to the success are HLI’s Advisor to Latin America, Nancy Tosi, and Cecelia Rodriguez, key coordinator and advisor for REDESSVIDA, the HLI project for Priests and Seminarians in Latin America.
Hundreds of testimonials were obtained, all agreeing that the HLI pro-life course is crucial in preparing people to defend the Gospel of Life. Those involved wanted the course even more actively promoted. One graduate stated: “I believe that it is very important that more people take the course, because it seems to me that due to lack of knowledge, some governments and interested people are trying to confuse the population, raising the flag of human rights to promote anti-life policies. The more people become better informed, the more possibilities we have to stop the culture of death.” Another moved person said, “I now have the arguments to love and defend life using science and the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. As part of the Church, I now defend life with more enthusiasm.”
Fr Manuel Geronimo, from Diocese of Maturin, Monagas, Venezuela, is currently taking the course through November. Saying the course is a “blessing”, he stated, “especially when we are faced with from those advocating gender ideology and destruction of the family.” Training with people from all the Diocese’s parishes, Father Geronimo continued: “It has been an exceptional training experience, which awakened the conscience of many people who have integrated into the pro-life fight. We now have a multidisciplinary team: lawyers, sexologists, medical doctors, internists, pediatricians, cardiologists, administrators, university professors, psychologists, housewives, also young people for catechesis, couples on the eve of marriage, priests, etc. I recommend it hands down. It is orthodox in the Faith, providing good resources for reference and quotations from the Magisterium of the Church and human sciences. Take advantage of it !!!”
