Life is Beautiful
August 14th marks two important dates: the feast of martyr Maximilian Maria Kolbe, who freely gave his life in place of another at the Auschwitz Concentration Camp, as well as the 15th anniversary of Lebenszentrum Salzburg (LZ). “LZ” Salzburg is a crisis pregnancy center, founded in 2002 to help pregnant women in need, at the wishes of Archbishop Emeritus Georg Eder, and Bishop Andreas Laun.
As one mother in need stated: “I was in the 10th week of pregnancy and didn’t know what to do. The father was also confused, we’d only known each other 2 ½ months. I asked a friend for help and she found the Center and came with me. The atmosphere was calm and friendly; I could share my worries. The answer after visiting the Center was clear: no abortion! And all kinds of help were offered to me. We are happy with the counseling and that we have chosen life.”
At the heart of the work of Lebenszentrum Salzburg is its chapel, which hosts Adoration twenty-four hours per day, praying for a Culture of Life. “LZ” Salzburg’s director, Joannes Bucher, who runs the clinic with wife Iris, says, “This spiritual nourishment is critical to our mission. There we place all our concerns before our Lord and Creator of Life, Jesus Christ. Monthly prayer vigils are also held. To date the center has rescued 500 babies from abortion, helping mothers choose Life!”
Lebenszentrum Salzburg is an affiliate of Human Life International, the world’s largest Pro-Life organization. Founded by Fr. Paul Marx nearly fifty years ago, our organization, currently led by Fr. Shenan J. Bouquet, is present in 159 nations around the globe. As a Catholic educational apostolate, HLI is faithful to the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church and works in collaboration with Vatican curial offices and Catholic dioceses around the world. Recently the Holy See’s Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life listed HLI as one of thirteen pro-life websites. More information can be found at www.hli.at and www.hli.org.
