There is No “Safe” Abortion Day

Pro-Lifers Need Not Apply

September 28th the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights widely proclaimed “International Safe Abortion Day.” There is no “safe” abortion day. Dr. Brian Clowes, Director of Education and Research for Human Life International (HLI), says when we hear “’experts’ agree unanimously that abortion should be legalized worldwide, the sneaky bit they leave out is they prohibit any pro-lifers from testifying or being on their committee.”

Though there is no such thing as a “safe” abortion, that did not stop the World Health Organization (WHO) from announcing a dual study by the WHO and the Alan Guttmacher Institute, the research arm of Planned Parenthood. It alleged in the last four years nearly half of the world’s abortions, i.e. 25 million, were “unsafe abortions.” The study, astonishingly published in a medical journal, The Lancet, claims 97% of these abortions occurred in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Why? Because U.N. wants to see legal abortion widely available worldwide.

There is No Safe Abortion Day 2

There Are No “Safe” Abortionists

The WHO press release states: Unsafe abortion occurs when a pregnancy is terminated either by persons lacking the necessary skills/information or in an environment that does not conform to minimal medical standards, or both.” Not so, disagrees HLI’s Dr. Clowes.  “Once abortion is legalized, these outsiders just leave.  The same quacks who were performing abortions before it was legalized are still doing them after abortion is legalized — but many more women die because many more abortions are done. This is how you get Kermit Gosnells.”

Yet the study incredibly affirms “when abortions are performed in accordance with WHO guidelines and standards, the risk of severe complications or death is negligible…. which means they were performed by a trained health worker using a WHO-recommended method appropriate to the pregnancy duration.” 31% of abortions were deemed “less safe,” meaning they were either performed by a trained provider using an unsafe or outdated method, and 14% “unsafe” done by untrained persons using dangerous methods. It is ironic they are not spending publicity on making maternal care safer, since giving birth is safer for a mother and child than the abortion.

No safe abortion day“They could care less if women die,” said Dr. Brian Clowes. “The equations the pro-abortion population controllers use in every situation are quite simple:    All illegal abortions are unsafe, and all legal abortions are safe.  But they know full well that the same people who were doing abortions before it was legal will be doing them after they are legal, but they are not concerned.

The question nobody asks is ‘If there are so many women dying from illegal abortions, why not just arrest and jail the illegal abortionists?’  Everyone knows who they are, and they often operate right out in the open! What other crime would we treat like this?  For example, let’s say we have some criminals who’ve been carjacking people for years, often killing them. So, in order to solve the pressing problem of illegal and unsafe carjacking, we will just legalize it and train thugs how to carjack without necessarily killing the drivers, although such deaths will still happen. This proves that they only want to legalize abortion for population control.”

The U.N. Just Wants Abortion Legal

The U.N., which has been under the control of the Culture of Death for decades, is entirely pro-abortion, and all of its agencies push abortion in whatever nations in which they operate.  Year after year, the U.N. becomes more and more extreme.  In 2008, it went so far as to describe pro-life laws as being equivalent to violence against women.  An expert group meeting organized by the United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women concluded that “Legislation should provide for immediate access to comprehensive and integrated services, including pregnancy testing, emergency contraception, abortion services, treatment for STDs …at the expense of the State … [and] withholding legal abortion is a form of gender-based discrimination and violence against women.”[1]

Predictably, the WHO just repeated the same tired argument for its “International ‘Safe’ Abortion Day”: “To prevent unintended pregnancies and unsafe abortions, countries must make supportive policies and financial commitments to provide comprehensive sexuality education; a wide range of contraceptive methods, including emergency contraception; accurate family planning counseling; and access to safe, legal abortion.”

Love the Mother, Love the Child

No abortion is safe for the baby, who dies. And every year women die in the United States from legal abortions. More yet are injured during the prodedure and rushed to hospitals (which is why some states require abortion clinics to have standing arrangements with a local hospital). Yet the study has the gall to claim: “Most abortions that take place in Western and Northern Europe and North America are safe.”

Members of the population control cartel are absolute masters at manipulation of facts. According to documentation provided by Dr. Clowes, in every known case they have lied. Dr. Bernard Nathanson, a co-founder of the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL), admitted pro-abortionists routinely inflated numbers for women who died of illegal abortions or in related deaths. (An obstetrician and gynecologist who even aborted one of his own children, he later became pro-life and converted to Catholicism.) Remember, if the Culture of Death does not provide documentation, it’s because it’s spin and not fact.

We at Human Life International believe in treating both mother and baby. In the words of Pope Benedict XVI:

No safe abortion day

Pope Benedict XVI

“God’s love does not differentiate between the newly conceived infant still in his or her mother’s womb and the child or young person, or the adult and the elderly person. God does not distinguish between them because he sees an impression of his own image and likeness (Gn 1:26) in each one.

The next time you hear that it’s International “Safe” Abortion Day, run for the hills. The groups involved are sharpening their knives to kill millions of unborn children and making the world less safe for their mothers, as well.
