Biden-Harris Ticket Threatens Faith, Family, and Life

Over the past decade the Democrat party has been careening towards the radical left, occupied these days by an intolerant cabal of ideological extremists whose main concerns include the unrestricted right to choose an abortion, whether toddlers are being sufficiently affirmed in their “transgender” identity, and how to expunge every person with the slightest conservative leaning from any position of power or prominence. As if we needed any further proof of the Democrat party’s extremism, Joe Biden last week picked for his running mate a woman who recently appeared to suggest that believing Catholics are, by definition, unfit to be judges.

Pushing Catholics out of Government

In one of the most troubling episodes in recent politics, in 2018 Harris grilled a Catholic district judicial nominee in Nebraska on his membership in the Knights of Columbus. In written questions, Harris asked Brian Buescher whether he was aware that the Knights “opposed a women’s right to choose” and “opposed marriage equality” when he joined the group. One of Harris’ Democratic colleagues went even further, asking Buescher whether he would quit the Knights – to which millions of Catholic men belong – “to avoid any appearance of bias.”

Harris’ anti-Catholic bigotry is ironic, given that Biden himself makes a great show of being a “devout” Catholic – a claim that is repeated ad nauseum by the media, who never seem to pause to ask just what the term “devout” could possibly mean in this case. Biden, certainly, was baptised Catholic and does regularly go to church. However, given that he actively opposes Church teaching on innumerable, nonnegotiable moral matters – most notably, the murder of innocent unborn children – this seems a highly questionable use of the term “devout.” It’s rather like calling a professional cattle butcher a “devout” Hindu – something I doubt the media would ever do.

Last year, after receiving some pushback on the abortion issue (including from Harris herself), Biden enthusiastically ditched the last vestiges of anything resembling a “moderate” position on abortion – i.e. his onetime opposition to taxpayer funding of abortion. Not only does Biden now support taxpayer funding of child killing, but he has also expressed support for the idea of codifying Roe v. Wade in federal legislation – an idea that Harris has also supported.

Even More Extreme than Biden

However, by tapping Harris as his VP pick, Biden has made it clear that his administration will not merely be an ally to the abortion industry, but will do everything possible to promote abortion and to hurt the pro-life cause, up to and including using law enforcement to harass and even jail pro-life activists. No doubt, some people will accuse me of being paranoid. However, the notion that a Biden-Harris administration would seek to prosecute pro-lifers using whatever legal loophole they can find is not the fevered imaginings of a paranoid mind. Quite the contrary. It’s simply based upon the assumption that Harris will continue to act as she has acted in the past.

In 2016, the pro-life investigative reporter David Daleiden and his group, the Center for Medical Progress, released a series of videos with evidence that Planned Parenthood and other abortionists were harvesting the body parts of unborn babies and then illegally selling them for a profit. At the time, Harris was serving as the Attorney General of California. In response to the videos, not only did Harris not investigate Planned Parenthood for its illegal activities, but instead she launched an investigation against Daleiden! Harris even ordered officials in her office to raid Daleiden’s house, where they seized copies of the undercover videos. At the time, Harris was running for the U.S. Senate, and had received donations from Planned Parenthood. Earlier this year, Daleiden sued Harris, alleging that she had conspired with Planned Parenthood to violate his civil rights.

No surprise, then, that Planned Parenthood gushed about Biden’s choice of Harris in a statement last week. “Throughout her career, she has been a steadfast champion for reproductive rights and health care,” Planned Parenthood said. “With this selection, Joe Biden has made it clear that he is deeply committed to not only protecting reproductive rights, but also advancing and expanding them.” (emphasis added)

Kamala Harris, Biden-Harris 2020

“Advancing and expanding.” Perhaps Planned Parenthood was thinking of Harris’ plan to pass legislation that would require pro-life states to ask permission of the federal government before enforcing new pro-life laws. Or perhaps they were thinking of the California bill she sponsored that required pro-life pregnancy centers in the state to give their clients information about (in other words, to advertise) free or low-cost abortions. (The Supreme Court later struck down that law.)

In a tweet last week, Daleiden called Harris “the greatest threat to First Amendment civil rights our country has ever seen.” He added: “I know because she had my home raided for speaking the truth about her political patrons at Planned Parenthood.”

Stand Up and Be Heard

Of course, abortion is hardly the only moral issue on which Biden and Harris are worlds away from the truths taught by the Catholic Church. Both Biden and Harris, for instance, have officiated at same-sex “weddings.” As California Attorney General, Harris simply refused to do her job and defend the law – Proposition 8 – that banned same-sex “marriage.” Last year, during the Kavanaugh hearings at the Supreme Court, Harris called Obergefell – the activist decision legalizing same-sex “marriage” – “one of the great moments in the history of the Supreme Court.” Name a radical progressive position on just about any issue, and it’s almost certain that Biden and Harris support it.

This Debate Needs Catholic Voices

Harris, Biden, and their allies would like to see conservatives of any stripe pushed to the margins of society. Precisely for this reason we need, more than ever, Catholics, believing Christians, and other people of good will who are willing to forcefully assert their right to live their beliefs, and to defend them in the public square. The battle lines are clearly established. The culture of death is “rewriting” the human story, successfully teaching a new vocabulary and grammar. A false idea of freedom as the capacity to do whatever one wants, rather than to do what is right, is being cemented into the public mind and is being imposed by coercive forces and ideologues. If unchallenged, this new worldview will inevitably undermine all structures of society.

If Catholics fail to enter the public debate, leaving these realities unchallenged, what happens? The upcoming national elections are a vital component in this story. Will this society “vote” for a platform that seeks to further advance nefarious anti-life and anti-family ideologies, or will it have the courage to stand against the extremely progressive political tide, defending truth about the inviolable dignity of human life, natural marriage, family life, human sexuality, and religious freedom?

Kamala Harris appears to believe that a believing Catholic cannot be impartial in political matters, and is therefore disqualified from public office. Of course, no one is “impartial” in these matters. We all approach politics with certain a priori principles. The reason we have the political process, and protections for free speech and religious liberty, is in order to create the conditions in which we can evaluate whose principles are true, and whose principles would better support the common good. In addressing the wider culture and society, Catholicism is a voice that makes genuinely public arguments, deploying a vocabulary of universal moral truths, truths that are rooted in reason. Through this vocabulary it forms the faithful in truth, calling every disciple to bear witness to this truth in their daily lives, households, workplaces, associations, cultural activities, and, yes, also in their political lives.

Biden-Harris Threatens Faith, Family, and Life

Biden and Harris believe that the unborn child is not a person and does not possess the right to life. This is sheer bigotry, unsupported by science or reason. And yet, Harris believes a Catholic man should not become a judge, because he belongs to an organization that defends the right to life of all!

We have every right to vigorously oppose this bigotry, and to enshrine the truth in law. The culture of death is a cancer that if left to its own evil intent will consume not only itself, but us with it. I am very much concerned by what I am seeing and how our families and human life will suffer even more so if we do not defeat the culture of death and expose its nefarious vocabulary and grammar. It will not only be the baby in the womb, the sick and elderly, the poor, and the disabled that are endangered, but every person’s life will be threatened by this insidious disease.

The Biden-Harris ticket should raise grave concern to Catholics, orthodox Christians, and pro-life and family people. Biden’s record alone reeks of hypocrisy and evil. The lack of episcopal leadership and correction over the decades of Biden’s political career have falsely conveyed that he is a Catholic in good standing. This, of course, is a familiar story. By saying nothing or very little, our shepherds have permitted or even appeared to endorse Biden’s version of Catholicism, which has done him – and now us – a great disservice. Harris’ record is even more dangerous. Her positions are – hard to believe – more radical than Biden’s.

As citizens, believing Catholics, and pro-life and pro-family activists, it is crucial that we educate ourselves and others on the details of the positions of the various candidates, recognize the high stakes, and vigorously and unapologetically expose and oppose the extremism of those politicians who oppose the truth on life, family, faith, and freedom.

In Canada, being pro-life exclude a person from being a member of any major political parties (at least in their caucus where the real influence is!). In the USA what seems to exclude persons is mere bad mouthing or constantly lying or being somewhat hypocritical about the reality of a culture of death. So what are Catholics called to do if they want to participate in the democratic process? …vote carefully?…think twice about who you vote for? This approach seems to ask Catholics to stop dead in their tracks! Why can’t we ask political parties to respect the “freedom of religion” that they are required by law? That seems the only valid “political” approach that Catholics” are able to promote to have the right to be even included in the political process. If we cannot participate “peacefully” or “legally” will we have to go back to the catacombs?

As a pro-life Catholic, follower of Jesus Christ, who is my King, my Lord and my all. It pains me that decency, morality, ethic behavior and charity are no longer required of our leaders, specifically our current president. He has been given a pass as long as he pretends to care about the pro-life agenda. Abortion will not be reduced by changing laws. It will change when women seeking abortions find kindness, moral support, mental support, financial support and love. Let’s urge our government leaders to establish Maternity Care Clinics where women feel cared for and supported during their pregnancies. Most women have abortions because they feel they have no choice. Let’s give them the perfect and true choice that is to have their child. Laws will not achieve this. Endorsing a president, who is anything but Christian, the worst role model for our youth, is astounding to me.
Fr. Bouquet, the reality of life is that not everyone in the world is Christian, or spiritual or religious. They will not follow what we know is right in the eyes of God, but as you know they are children of God, our brothers and sisters and deserve our prayers and love. People who live differently ( gays, transgenders) will not change because we shun them or criticize them. Let’s see them with love and compassion. Sincere prayer works miracles.

How can anyone vote for Biden who knows Christ ?

I am 69 years old and what is commonly referred to as a “cradle Catholic”. Regretfully, my previous wife had 4 abortions and we had a son now in his 40’s who grew up without siblings. Not a day goes by that I think of the lost joy I missed raising the others and the possible grandchildren that could have been.

I resurrected my life 17 years ago remarrying in the church to a staunch Catholic woman and returned to the church becoming a Knight of Columbus and Cursillista. I know the church will survive as it always has but I worry about what I see now. Parochial schools closing, lack of vocations and poor church attendance. I read Catalina’s post and mostly agree with it. Abortion is the worst option a woman can have but the child abuse of those baptized children entrusted to our clergy and spiritual leaders left scars on those affected and drove many from Catholicism. Joe Biden is not the ideal 100% Catholic we would like but should we support a phony Pro-Lifer who doesn’t respect women and is a true narcissist and racist or someone who has some empathy and compassion? Instead of the United States, I feel I live in the Divided States of America.
If Roe V. Wade is overturned, the law will return to the states and if anyone thinks 50 states will be in agreement on this issue they are living in a surreal world. We need Jesus to return soon and save us from this nightmare we are living in. Many people are suffering. Nothing in the world is 100%. Life, Politics, Love and Faith. The Creator will be the one to pass judgment.
