Will or Trust

When determining how the assets of your estate will be distributed, in addition to providing for your loved ones, you can also remember the needs of HLI. This can be done through a specific dollar amount, percentage of your estate, or through the residual of your estate.

It is very important to obtain expert advice in these areas. We highly recommend that you consult a financial planner and/or legal counsel in order to take full advantage of the tax saving strategies that are available to you.

We would be pleased to provide additional information to you and/or your advisors as you proceed with your gift planning. If you need help getting started and would like HLI to recommend a solid Catholic, pro-life financial advisor, please let us know. If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact HLI at (540) 635-7884.

Wills/Bequests

When preparing a will it is important that the documents contain language that conforms to the laws of your state. If you have not already done so, I encourage you to employ the services of a qualified pro-life attorney. When you meet with your attorney, there are a number of different ways that you can include HLI in your will.

How can I make a bequest?

You could leave a fixed sum of money, or a specific item of personal property you own (e.g., shares of stock in a company, a specific bank account, an insurance policy, etc.).

Appropriate language would be:

“I give and bequeath to Human Life International, a tax-exempt non-profit, located at 4 Family Life Lane, Front Royal, VA 22630 USA, the [sum of $________] or [my shares of stock in XYZ Company] to be used for the general purposes of Human Life International’s baby saving mission.”

You could leave a portion of your residuary estate. Your “residuary” estate is what is left after paying all expenses and all other specific bequests.

Appropriate language would be:

“I give, devise, or bequeath________% of my residuary estate to Human Life International, a tax-exempt non-profit , located at 4 Family Life Lane, Front Royal, VA 22630 USA, for its general purposes”.

You can leave a piece of real estate, using this language:

“I give, devise and bequeath my interest in the real estate known as [include a full and complete description] to Human Life International, a tax-exempt non-profit, located at 4 Family Life Lane, Front Royal, VA 22630 USA, for its general purposes”.

Bequests to Human Life International are an easy way to help HLI in its international mission to save babies and reduce your Estate Tax liability.

This is not to be construed as legal advice. You should always consult with an attorney who has experience in the field of wills, trusts, and estate planning to prepare a will, which fully and accurately expresses your wishes.
