You are Protecting Women from a Twisted Medical System
Norplant isn’t used in western countries because of its terrible side effects. But in places like Rwanda, anti-life groups are willing to risk women’s lives and health to keep births down.
Doctors forced Joelitha to inject a dangerous contraceptive. Thanks to you, she was able to remove it.
Joelitha’s doctors either didn’t know or didn’t care that the rod in her arm would make her sick. Sadly, that’s common in the developing world. Groups like Planned Parenthood teach healthcare workers a pack of lies. They say contraception is safe, and children are a one-way ticket to poverty.
In fact, it’s thanks to you that this child got a chance to be born at all. During her pregnancy, Joelitha’s doctors pressured her to abort, and she gave in. But because of your generous support for HLI Rwanda, a missionary reached her in time.
When she learned that her child is more than a clump of cells, and that amazing people like you are willing to help, she chose life.
Despite their best efforts, her doctors delivered a healthy baby. But with a little help from Norplant, at least they could make sure he wouldn’t have any siblings.

As part of her follow-up care at HLI Rwanda, Joelitha learned what contraception does to a woman’s health and soul.
She didn’t want to use a drug that is so displeasing to God. And she realized it was causing the health problems she’d been suffering since her child was born.
Joelitha asked your missionaries if they could help her remove the Norplant rod. They took her to a pro-life clinic to have it taken out right away.
Now her health is back to normal, and she’s free from a terrible sin.

You’re also making sure she knows how to care for herself, body and soul. Without you, there would be no one to teach women like Joelitha the truth about contraception. But because your pregnancy centers care for the whole person, she is living Norplant-free.
You Can Heal the Medical System Through Pro-life Education
The difference you made in Joelitha’s life is truly amazing. But we won’t always be able to undo the damage caused by doctors with anti-life training.
To truly give women like Joelitha the protection they deserve, we need to change the medical system.
The key is to bring pro-life education to present and future healthcare workers. You’re already doing that, but to really make a change we need to scale it up.
You may remember a story in the last Mission Report about a clinic leader in Tanzania. She came to one of your training events and it completely changed her perspective on abortion and contraception. Now we’re retraining her whole staff to convert that abortion clinic into a pro-life medical center.
