HLI Mission Combats Abortion Legislation in Dominican Republic

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — As a result of the new government’s decision to amend the penal code to decriminalize abortion, the Dominican Republic is now the 36th nation to deny its original constitutional framework recognizing human life begins at conception. The traditionally pro-life country of 10 million was one of the remaining holdouts in Latin America. Chile, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, and Nicaragua still maintain strong limits on abortion in accordance with their constitutions.
