The Dark Side of Organ Donation
March 9, 2023
Should Catholics donate organs? Isn’t it a heroic life-giving service? Not so fast. While organ donation can be a good thing, it’s often abused. In today’s society, it might be imprudent.
On this episode, Michael Vacca from the Christ Medicus Association joins us to talk about ethical questions about organ donation, including: brain death, live donors vs dead donors, organ donation and driver’s licenses, and using Advanced Medical Directives.

I am sickened and disgusted by organ donation. My brother had a cardiac arrest and was brought back 2 times . He was in the hospital for 12 days. On the last day of his life during the last rights we decided to let him go and bring in hospice as discussed. They never came. They sent only the organ donation company because he signed his drivers license. It was awful. His family didn’t want him to suffer. They wanted to keep him alive for 48 without pain meds ( moraphine) because it would lower his blood pressure and the organs would not be viable. 2 things there is no informed consent at the DMV . The nurses are going against their license and becoming an institutional representative and no longer patient advocate. This is inhumane and murder in my eyes. I believe as a RN everyone is entitled to a peaceful death. This was not going to happen for my brother. His death was violent and painful because of this practice. Jennifer kachel RN
