The 5th Latin American Congress of Crisis Pregnancy Centers is taking place this week in a retreat house about 50 miles from the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The theme of this year’s congress is “To Jesus via Mary.” Human Life International President Father Shenan Boquet and HLI Regional Director for Latin America Mario Rojas were invited to speak at the congress about HLI’s efforts to build a Culture of Life in the region and around the world.
The event attracted over 200 people including 12 priests, 10 monks and 10 nuns. Representatives from a dozen countries came to exchange ideas and strategies to fight the increasing threat of legalized abortion in Latin America.
Countries with laws allowing abortion-on-demand are few in Latin America, but there is constant pressure from organizations like the United Nations, Organization of American States, and a host of well-financed population control groups to decrease the legal protection of life from conception.
In addition to working with crisis pregnancy centers, HLI has a network of pro-life priests and seminarians we train and work with who speak boldly on life and family issues in their parishes and diocese. Changes to a nation’s laws often begin with cultural shifts. Combating the propaganda threatening these traditionally life-loving cultures, often coming from the West, is essential in the fight to protect the sanctity of life and the family. Having strong pro-life clergy constantly reminding the flock about the importance of defending life in the public square is critical.
Please pray for safe travels for Fr. Boquet and Mario, and that their pro-life missionary work in Argentina bears much fruit!
